Instructional writing
Our new genre of writing this term in primary 4 is ‘Instructional Writing’. To begin this unit we went outside and played a game of Hopscotch. We realised the importance of writing specific, clear instructions. We worked in pairs to write our own set of instructions for playing Hopscotch. We then swapped our instructions with our peers and tried out their instructions. If a set of instructions didn’t work we helped work out how to improve them and make them more specific.
To finish of this lesson we completed a how to draw activity. As our current topic is ‘Let’s Celebrate’ and we have been learning about Diwali this week we followed the instructions to draw colourful Diya lamps. It was very important that we listened carefully and followed every instruction accurately to ensure our finished creations were perfect.
